Preserving the historic charm and highlighting those “simple pleasures” of our hometown was the spark that formed Vision 2020 Inc. By far, the largest project Vision 2020 has undertaken is the restoration of the old bank building in the downtown area to house a local heritage museum. Purchase of the property was completed ahead of schedule in September 2012. Materials to repair the roof have been purchased. The Restoration Design Committee has decided that work on the roof must be completed first. We are a few thousand dollars away from our goal of raising $8,000 to pay for the labor to repair the roof. Once the roof has been repaired, restoration work will move to the exterior brick walls, the windows and entry doors.
The Design Committee plans to complete work on the outside of the structure before moving inside.
In the fall of 2013, the bank building was listed on The National Register of Historic Places. “The National Register is a list of properties significant in American history, architecture, archaeology, and culture - a comprehensive index of the significant physical evidences of our national patrimony. Properties listed thereon deserve to be preserved by their owners as a part of the cultural heritage of our nation.”
Vision 2020 has undertaken several fundraising events and efforts. Currently, “spare change jars” have been placed in local businesses. Patrons of the businesses are encouraged to drop their spare change into the jars. Every little bit of change will move Vision 2020 closer to their goal of raising funds to complete the restoration of the bank building. Please look for the Piggy Jars in the following businesses:
