On Saturday, August 2, 2014, Vision 2020 hosted the Fourth Annual Ice Cream social at the Armour Hotel in Red Boiling Springs. Tickets were available for $5 each, $20 for a family of five. They secured unlimited access to delicious homemade ice cream, a cake walk, silent auction, community fellowship and the music of Kinship. Proceeds benefit the Red Boiling Springs Heritage Museum Fund, but the event is really an opportunity to enjoy a late summer evening with friends and neighbors. Founding member of Vision 2020 Carolyn Whitaker said, “It raises a little money, but it’s really a community activity.”
And community activity is what Vision 2020 is about. Chartered in 2010, “Vision 2020 concentrates on enhancing the community through various projects and programs,” according to its website. Its twenty-five members are “committed to protecting the deep rooted history of the town of Red Boiling Springs, preserving the stories of its citizens and historic structures, and enhancing the overall quality of life.” Vision 2020 meets at 7:00 pm on the fourth Tuesday of each month in the dining room of the Armour’s Hotel. The meetings are open to anyone interested in getting involved.
