Lafayette United Methodist Church will have a VBS Kickoff on Sunday, July 27th in the Fellowship Hall with hot dogs at 5:30PM and a movie to follow in the sanctuary about 6PM. VBS will be July 28-30 from 6PM-8PM. Registration will be Mon. July 28 at 5:30PM. Theme is The Ten Commandments.


Ice Cream Social


Sadler’s Chapel United Methodist Church in RBS, is having an ice cream social on Sat. July 26th at 2PM. Everyone welcome.

Library Story Times


Story Time will continue at the Macon County Public Library every Tuesday at 10 am. All ages are welcome! Spanish Story Time will be held every Wednesday at 10 am. Story time at the RBS branch will now be held on the first Tuesday of every month at 3 p.m.


Spanish Pre-K Tutoring


The public library will now be offering Spanish Pre-K Tutoring every Wednesday at 10:45 am.


VSO Office Closed


The Veterans Service Office will be closed the week of 20-26 July 2014. The VSO will be out of town during this time but the office will reopen on Monday, 28 July 2014. Should you need immediate assistance during this time please call VA at (800) 827-1000 or TDVA (Cookeville) at (931) 526-6929.

Medicare Help


SHIP/SMP representatives from the Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging & Disability will be at Macon County Senior Center on August 20 from 1 pm until 3 pm to help counsel on any Medicare questions, abuse or concerns. Please contact SHIP at 1-877-801-0044 with questions. SHIP/SMP covers all 14 Upper Cumberland Counties.

MCJH Orientations


To the Parents of Macon County Junior High students:


6th Grade Orientation—Monday, August 4th, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM


6th & 7th Grade Open House—Monday, August 4th, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM


8th Grade Open House “Tiger Pride Night”—Wednesday, August 6th, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. There will be snacks and door prizes (as well as other items/prizes) to give away on this night.


Jr. Cross Country Conditioning


Junior High Cross Country conditioning is in progress. Conditioning starts at 5:30 PM. Conditioning is not mandatory for the Junior High runners; however it is highly recommended. Conditioning will be beneficial once the season starts.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

Fish Fry


A Frish Fry will be held Friday, July 25 at 4 PM at the Masonic Lodge in Lafayette. Fish, french fries, white beans, hush puppies, slaw, and a desserts. $7 a plate; all proceeds go towards the Masonic Lodge building fund.


VFW Breakfast


The VFW will be having their ham breakfast on Sat. July 26, from 7:30-9AM. The cost is $6 per plate. You do not have to be a member to attend. Turkey shoot at 9 AM across the road from Going Postal, Hwy 52W. Guns and shells are provided, or bring your own.


Cookout for Relay


A burger cookout will be held in support of Relay for Life on Saturday, July 26, 10:00-1:00 in front of Walmart in Lafayette. Come out, catch up with friends, and support the cause!


RBS Lion’s Pancake Supper


Saturday, July 26 at The Armour’s Hotel, enjoy a Pancake and Waffle Supper sponsored by RBS Lion’s Club. Chicken Tenders, country ham, fruits and veggies. Kinship Trio and Wesley Davis to perform. Adults $8, Kids 6-12 $4. Info: 615-699-3500.


Tiger Steak Dinner


Will be held Saturday, July 26, 6pm at the MCHS Indoor Facility. Adult Tickets (includes steak, baked potato, salad, roll, drink, dessert) $15 each or 2/$25; Kids tickets (includes hot dog, chips, drink, dessert) $7. Benefits Tiger Football and Cheerleaders. Fun Day in the Park


The Teresa Wright fun day in the park will be on July 26 from 9-11AM at Hermitage Springs Park. All K-8th grade students are invited to come out and enjoy fun, games, and free snacks. Participants will receive free school supplies. Child must be present to receive school supplies.


Lego Contest


The Macon County Fair Lego Contest will be Sat. Aug. 2 at 12:15 PM at the Martha Wilburn Pavilion. Classes: ages 3-6, 7-9, 10-14, and 15 and over. People’s Choice-Vote for $1. Awards sponsored by the Tri-County Electric, Marcus Smith, and Macon County Fair.


Ice Cream Social


On Saturday, August 2nd, Vision 2020 will host the 4th annual Ice Cream Social, Cake Walk, and Silent Auction, from 5-7 pm. Admission is $5/person or $20/family; all proceeds benefit Heritage Museum.


Auto Jam


RBS Auto Jam returns . Car, truck, bike, & rat rod show, August 2 at Cyclemos Motorcycle Museum at 319 East Main St, RBS. $15 entry fee per vehicle. Registration from 8AM-noon. Benefit for Genesis House

Fair Child Pageants


The Macon County Fair pageants will be: Little Miss (4-6) on Aug. 6, Petite Miss (7-9) on Aug. 4, Sweetheart (10-12) on Aug 4, Princess (13-15), and Fairest of the Fair, on Aug 2. All at the Martha Wilburn Pavilion at the Macon County Fairgrounds. Each contestant must complete, sign, and return the entry form with a $25 entry fee and a non-perishable food item on Thursday, between 5 and 7PM on July 24. Call 666-4034 for info.


Talent Show


The Macon County Fair Talent Show will be Fri., Aug., 8 at 7PM at the Martha Wilburn Pavilion. Classes: children up to 12, ages 13-17, and 18 and over. Overall winner $100.00. Awards sponsored by Macon County Fair.
