Benny Maggart open house at The Loft

The Loft hosted an open house last Friday to introduce the work of Benny Maggart, which will be on display and for sale there for the next several months. Maggart, a longtime pastor, was an art major at MTSU with a focus on pottery. He now makes delicate clay works, sold under the name “MaggArt Pottery.” For more information, call 666-2083.

Why I support the open carry bill

A few Tennesseans that I’ve heard from in person and in print have a problem with this new open carry law, which is now held up in a budget committee and may or may not make it to the next legislative vote.But I have to say that I disagree with those who oppose it, for various reasons. Former dispatcher Jean McGuffey passes away

Longtime Macon County dispatcher and beloved community member Jean McGuffey passed away after a bout with cancer on Tuesday, April 15.Her former coworker, Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons, says that she will be sadly missed. Gammons worked alongside McGuffey before he was elected to Sheriff, and then she worked for him until her sickness forced her to retire, within the last two years.

Modern Woodmen give Tigers $5,036.11

The Modern Woodmen of America recently presented the Macon County Tiger Football Team with a check for $5,036.11. MCHS students attend math contest

On Tuesday, April 15, 27 students from Macon County High School traveled to Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN to compete in the 58th Annual State-Wide High School Math Contest. There were over 350 students at this competition representing 14 different schools. We are proud of these students for their participation in this competition.

Winding Stairs property land acquisition complete

The City of Lafayette recently completed land acquisition for the future city park location, Winding Stairs. On Thursday, April 10, a land swap was conducted to acquire the final 2.8 acres of land needed for the park. April South charged with vehicular homicide

April Michelle South was arrested on Thursday, April 10, and charged with vehicular homicide by recklessness. The arrest followed the release of a sealed indictment which was filed on March 26, 2014. 3rd Annual Youth Talent show held

The stars were shining bright as the Lafayette Lions Club held its 3rd annual Youth Talent Show last Saturday, April 12, at the Macon County Jr. High School. A total of 15 various acts were performed for a crowd. Ushers for the evening show included members of the Macon County High School Leo Club and the Community Leo Club. Mrs. Barbara Blankenship, master of ceremony, opened the show by thanking several members and businesses of the community.
