The cleanup from last week’s flooding continues.

Between Tuesday and Thursday, Aug. 17-19, an estimated 10 inches of rain fell on Macon County.

Damage to county roads is estimated at $500,000, according to Macon County Emergency Management Director Keith Scruggs.

Scruggs said the Federal Emergency Management Agency is scheduled to be in Macon County on Wednesday, Aug. 25, to meet with Road Supervisor Audie Cook.

“They’re trying to determine if there’s a need – if we’re going to ask for a federal disaster declaration,” Scruggs said Tuesday.

Most of the damage from last week’s rain is to the county’s road system, Scruggs said.

“Other counties – Jackson County, Clay County, Putnam County, Smith County – have equal damage or more than we do,” Scruggs said.
