How much rain has fallen on Macon County in the last 12 hours?
"Unofficially, we've had about eight inches of rain fall in the last 12 hours," Lafayette Fire Chief Keith Scruggs said.
Scruggs also is the emergency management director for Macon County.
He said the heavy rains have "caused sporadic flash flooding in low-lying areas."
Scruggs said the rain is now diminishing.
“We have been monitoring the situation and trying to stay on top of it. Right now it’s diminishing. We’re not going to do any evacuations,” he said. “We are monitoring all the low-lying areas where we usually have problematic situations arise.”
Downtown Red Boiling Springs was hit hard.
“We did get to what I guess you’d call a breaking point,” Scruggs said. “It got there and then it subsided.”
Scruggs advised everybody not to attempt to drive or wade through any rushing water.
He said there have been no injuries in Macon County as a result of the flooding.
“People are award of the situation,” Scruggs said. “We’ve had our people out all morning and we’ve blocked off all roads that we felt like were a danger. So far, so good as far as any injuries or anything like that.”
There were a few reports floating around the internet and by word of mouth that The Palace in Red Boiling Springs was evacuated. It was not. Instead, the The Palace was on "standby."
