Maple Grove #2 Missionary Baptist Church will be having an all-day service on Sunday, August 31 beginning at 10 am with Sunday school, worship at 11, lunch, then The Mid-State Quartet will be singing at 2 PM Everyone Invited!

Gospel Singing

Wilburn & Wilburn, a father and son Gospel Music duo, originally from Smith County, TN, will be singing at the North Carthage Missionary Baptist Church in Carthage, TN for the 5th annual Summer Sing on Sunday, Aug. 17th at 2:00 PM. No admission will be charged - a love offering will be taken.

Gospel Singing

Pleasant Shade Community Center, 743 Pleasant Shade Hwy will be having a LABOR DAY GOSPEL SINGING Sunday August 31st at 5:00 p.m. Singing groups will be The Mid-State Quartet and Happy Hearts from Westmoreland. Come spend an afternoon of good gospel singing with us. Concessions will be available. A free will offering will be taken for the Community Center.

Gospel Singing

There will be a gospel singing at Eulia General Baptist Church, (near Westside School) Sunday night August 17th at 6 PM. The guest singers will be the Midstate Quartet. Everyone is welcome.


Library Story Times

Story Time will continue at the Macon County Public Library every Tuesday at 10 am. All ages are welcome! Spanish Story Time will be held every Wednesday at 10 am. Story time at the RBS branch will now be held on the first Tuesday of every month at 3 p.m.

Spanish Pre-K Tutoring

The public library will now be offering Spanish Pre-K Tutoring every Wednesday at 10:45 am.

County Government Offices in Macon County will be closed on Monday, September 1 in observance of Labor Day.

Meeting Notice

The Macon County Board of Library Trustees will meet Wednesday, August 13TH, at 1:00 p.m. at the Macon County Public Library located at 311 Church Street in Lafayette, Tennessee.

Medicare Help

SHIP/SMP representatives from the Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging & Disability will be at Macon County Senior Center on August 20 from 1 pm until 3 pm to help counsel on any Medicare questions, abuse or concerns. Mason Degree

Lafayette Masonic Lodge #543 will have a master mason degree on Saturday 08/23. A potluck dinner will begin at 5 PM and the degree will follow at 6 PM. All master masons are invited.

Tennessee State Fair Pageants

Entries are now being sought for Tennessee State Fair pageants open to all Tennessee girls ages up to 20 years old. The pageants will be held at the Nashville State Fairgrounds Sept. 13. You can register on line at Registration fee is $49 now through Aug. 31 or $59 at the door. The Tennessee State Fair pageants, with over 150 awards and titles, partners with Crowns for a Cause to help the children at The Monroe Carell, Jr. Childrens Hospital at Vanderbilt be queen and hero for a day.


Wal-Mart Grand Re-opening

After an 11-wk remodel, Walmart will celebrate on Friday, August 15 with a grand re-opening. A ribbon cutting will be a 8 a.m., with grant check presentations following. Oreo stacking at 9 a.m. with ages 3-5 years and 5-12 years, with more activities to follow.

Benefit Singing

There will be a benefit singing for Katie Dozier at Brattontown Missionary Baptist Church on August 15th at 7PM. Katie is in need of a double lung transplant. Please pray for her and the family.

Eastern Star Picnic

The Lafayette OES No. 379 will host an indoor picnic on August 16 at 5 p.m. at the Lafayette Masonic Lodge building on Magamor Drive. Hot dogs, hamburgers and buns will be furnished, all Eastern Star members and Masonic members and their families are invited to bring a dish and join us.

Book Signing

There will be a book signing on Saturday, August 16, for locally authored novel “Thorns on a Rose.” The event will be held at the new Geraldine Hire Community Room in the Macon County Public Library and hosted by celebrity Terri Merryman. The library is located at 311 Church Street in Lafayette. Ms. Merryman’s program begins at 10:00, with the book signing afterwards until 12:30. The community is invited to attend.

Habitat Mud Run

A 5K benefiting Habitat For Humanity will be held August 30, 8:00-1:00 p.m. at Cane Creek Park in Cookeville. To sign up, visit

Fishing Tournament

A Benefit Fishing Tournament on Saturday, August 30 at 2:00 p.m. at Bledsoe Creek. Entry fee: $40 per boat. Cash prizes in first, second, and third place. 50% of proceeds will be donated to the Macon County Senior Center!

Annual Duck Race

Wounded Warrior Project

4th Annual Musicians Applauding Service Heroes will be held at 6590 Union Camp Rd, Lafayette, on Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30th - Sept. 1st. Featuring Hawg Hawk Trio, Social Dent, The Roaddogs, John Clayton Brackett, & Cherokee and more. All proceeds are going to the Wounded Warrior Project.

The Strawberry Patch Sale

The Strawberry Patch Sale will be held again on Thursday-Saturday, September 4-6. It will be held at 1272 Starlight Road, Hartsville, TN. $10 for the Sneak Peak Thursday night from 5-8 pm, with live music and complementary wine and cupcakes. Friday 10-7 ($5 entry), Saturday 10-4 ($5 entry). Live music Saturday as well. Kids 12-under are free.

Celina 5K

Dam Ride for Abby

HOPE Riders are holding a Dam Benefit Ride on September 6, 2014. Ride starts from the Walmart in Lafayette. Registration at 10:00 am; kickstands up at 11:00 am. End in Lafayette. 150-160 mile ride.
