On Saturday, February 15th, a Chili Cookoff will be held in the Macon County High School cafeteria. This event, which also includes a cake walk with lots of donated items, an auction, and lots of fun games for the kiddies, is a fundraiser for the Marching Tigers.
The Tigers have worked hard to get help from the Board of Education in the purchase of new uniforms and some other equipment. The board recently decided to support the project, lending the Marching Tigers $36,000 to purchase the items. $16,000 of that money will have to be paid back within four years.
That’s what events like this are for.
The spiffy new uniforms will be ordered in April and should be ready to break out in the fall of 2014. In the meantime, the marching band plans to raise as much as they can towards paying back their debt.
On February 15, the chili judging will begin at 4:00 PM, and there will be a cash prize for the winner. Chili experts can bring in their best between 3:00 and 4:00 PM.
The rest of us can just head over there for a good meal and a good time. The chili will be sold at $5 a bowl, including crackers, dessert, and drink. Hot dogs will also be available for $1.
The cake walk is scheduled for 5:30, and the live auction for 7:00 PM. Cake walk items include gift certificates, tools, beauty supplies and baked goods. The auction will feature tickets to various events, gift baskets, and more. Games for kids will be going on throughout; these include a ring toss, face painting, and a duck pond.
“Please come support your Macon County High Marching Band!” said volunteer Kim Winsett.
