TN Governor Bill Haslam announced Wednesday morning that Italian firearms manufacturer Beretta is building a new facility on 100 acres of land in Gallatin. The company stated that it will invest up to $45 million in the facility, creating 300 new jobs by 2018.

The property to be used is in an industrial park, and there are another 107 acres still available in the park. Gallatin purchased the land for $4 million in 2008. Beretta’s move means that the city will be able to keep a $1.9 million grant from TDOT. The grant was used to build a road into the park, and could be kept by the city on the condition that new business came to the site within three years.

Beretta, founded in Italy in 1526, is one of the oldest family-owned gun manufacturers in the world.

Although not directly affecting the municipalities in Macon County, the arrival of this business in Gallatin could mean employment for those in this area who are willing to make the drive.
