The Macon County Committee of the Whole met on Monday, January 6 at 6:00 pm.
Present were: Chris Wix, Kenneth Witte, Jeff Hughes, Phillip Snow, Jerry Ray, Scott Gammons, Larry Tucker, Mchelle Phillips, Bryan Carter, Tony Boles, Ronnie McDuffee, Benton Bartley, Rosetta Driver, Ron Morey, Wendell Jones, Anthony Bullington and Dewayne Whittemore. Absent were Todd Doss, Cathy White and Helen Hesson .
Note: All votes passed will be deferred to next meeting for final vote. The following business was conducted:
The committee approved minutes as presented from the 12/16/13 Legislative Body Meeting and Fair Board Minutes 1/2/14.
Budget Amendments #1 (EMS) were approved.
Budget Amendments #2 (Hwy Department) were approved.
Sheriff Gammons presented to the committee about a camera bid that he had received, but he requested to hold off on a vote due to a recent patrol car accident, as other material may be needed. Discussion ensued. A motion was then passed, deferring the camera bid until February.
Daniel Masiongale, Structural Engineer, was unable to attend the meeting as planned due to the weather. He sent his report on the Lafayette football stadium for review, and discussion ensued. The committee voted to defer recommendation from Masiongale to the next meeting and ask him to include a handicap quote to his recommendation.
Motion was made by Whittemore and seconded by Boles to borrow 2.6 million to build a new football stadium for Lafayette and a gym for Red Boiling Springs while rates are low, and split the cost with the Board of Education over 10 year period. Motion failed on roll call.
Mayor Linville informed the committee that letters had been mailed to Constables Barry Newberry and Timothy Day in regards to their arrest powers being revoked until training hours are completed.
Mayor Linville informed the committee that a letter had been mailed to Sally Wells requesting a Fair Board financial report ending December 31, 2013.
Purchasing laws and impact fees for 2012 and 2013 were included in the commissioner’s packets for review.
