The Macon County Times Relay For Life team is proud to bring you a special concert on Saturday, March 15 at the Macon County Jr. High.Winter Blues features headlining Nashville artist Sophie Shear. Opening for her are local performers Jason Gammon and Jessie Liz Clement. Doors open at 6 pm and the show begins at 7 pm. Tickets are $5 at the door (children 12 and under get in free).There will also be a short public word, before Shear goes on at 8 pm, acknowledging those in the community who have been affected by cancer. Concertgoers should come prepared to stand and remember loved ones, or to stand and acknowledge friends and family who are survivors.
This Macon County Tiger Cub Scout Pack, along with their Boy Scout family members and cub leaders, visited the Macon County Times and had a tour on Thursday, March 6. Thanks for organizing the visit, Christy Madden!
Last week, the staff at Macon County Junior High handed out awards to students for making gains on the Discovery Education Assessment. Every student that made a gain on one or more portions of the assessment received a Certificate of Achievement. Each student had the opportunity to make a gain(s) in either Language Arts, Math, or Science. In addition, the student with the biggest gain in each grade’s tested subjects received a plaque for their efforts.

Jim and Pat Howell of the Siloam community will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year. They were married on March 7, 1964. The Howells have two children, Kelly Howell and Connie (Anthony) Blackwell, two grandchildren Rosa Howell and Matthew Howell, and two great grandchildren, Gabe, Kennley and one on the way. Jim recently retired from Mike’s Food Valu in Westmoreland. Pat is a homemaker. The Howells are active members of Siloam Missionary Baptist Church.
