'Prayful and positive': Family rallies after son's cancer diagnosis

Just a little over four months ago, Leslie and Jed Goad's world was turned upside down. Jed, a self-employed truck driver and Leslie, a teacher, noticed their infant son wasn't feeling well. What started out as a routine fever and a pediatrician visit for Easton, ended up much more serious. “Our doctor asked us to come back a few days later if the fever didn't go away and have blood drawn. The blood work that came back was the first indicator of a problem,” said Leslie Goad.


Fairlane students help local teacher’s family

Fairlane Elementary students have been selling paper pumpkins and leaves “In Honor” and “In Memory” of someone with cancer to help raise money for Easton Goad’s family, who was diagnosed with liver cancer several months ago. Leslie Goad, Easton’s mom, is a Macon County teacher.As of Friday, Oct. 17th, the students have raised $850. The students would like to thank everyone who contributed and wish Easton the very best.

Local Wakefield Revolutionary War connection to be honored

On Saturday, October 18, at 2:00 P. M., a local connection to the American Revolution will be marked. The Colonel Anthony Bledsoe Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will hold an Official Marking of the Grave of Henry Wakefield. The Colonel Anthony Bledsoe chapter, the SAR chapter nearest to the Wakefield grave, is located in Gallatin.

Farley proves it’s never too late for a dream

It’s never too late to realize a dream. Virginia Farley is definitely living proof. The 72-year-old wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother earned her high school diploma in December 2013.Dressed in a smart suit and a bubbly personality, Farley told why she never finished high school, actually she never started. “I was the oldest of six children. When I was in the eighth grade, my mother took me out of school to help raise the others,” Farley said.
