Wal-Mart holds grand re-opening

Wal-Mart celebrated a Grand Re-Opening on Friday, August 15. Dozens of local dignitaries, store employees, and customers celebrated recent renovations unveiled by the store.Wal-Mart has been a part of the Lafayette community since Dec. 31, 1985. The Supercenter opened on Jan. 20, 2000 at its current location. The store has currently gone through an 11 week remodel, with changes including new paint, self checkouts and new shopping carts.Grant checks were also presented to the following organizations, Courageous Kids, Macon County Arts Council, and The Lafayette Little League. Other activities were offered throughout the day, including an Oreo stacking contest.

The Strawberry Patch Barn Sale was the brain-child of entrepreneur Christy Jo Stone. “In 2009, after twisting a few arms, I began hosting a glorified yard sale in my backyard with a small group of girls who have since become my best friends,” said Stone. Rotary activity

At last week’s Rotary Club meeting, Tennessee Soapworks owner Matthew Starner regaled the club with the intricacies of the soap making process. Starner mixed, poured and cut a (pre-made) block of soap during his presentation to the club, while giving a brief overview of the history of his business. Tennessee Soapworks is located on the square in Lafayette. In other business, MCHS graduate Jackson Sircy received a $1000 scholarship from the club.

Stoplight going in on Scottsville Road

Construction started last week for a stop light to be built at the intersection of Scottsville Rd and Akersville Rd/Sycamore St in Lafayette.
